I am very excited to announce that Guest Coach Graham Thomas, Head Coach UBC will be leading our female camps. After a record setting season at the University of British Columbia, Graham has been named the Coach of the Year for Canada West conference and for the entire CIS. These two awards speak to Graham’s attention to detail and passion for teaching. Click here for Coach Graham’s Bio. According to Canada West’s Official Website, “In his first season in the league, Thomas operated one of the greatest turnarounds in CIS history, in any sport.”

Male Summer Features:
Nate Leslie and Mike Sommer will lead the on ice sessions August 12-16 for Atom and Pee Wee players. Graham and Mike will lead the following week for Bantam and Midget players August 19-23. We are looking forward to assisting players prepare for their tryouts and get back in the swing of hockey. As usual, our focus will be individual puck and skating skill development, game understanding, and small area competition. We do a lot of training in small groups by age and ability. This format allows us to use the ice in the most efficient way, and insures a great experience for every player. This camp is geared towards players that will be attending Rep tryouts for the 2013-14 season.

On-Ice:
Our summer ice sessions are designed to promote the development and refinement of hockey specific technical skills and the learning of game strategy and decision making abilities. Players will learn values and behaviours associated with successful teamwork and performance. With a smaller coach to player ration, athletes will benefit from greater personalized feedback and instruction and ongoing coach to ensure continued development towards hockey career goals. Richmond Olympic Oval HP on-ice player sessions offer competitive and player centered instruction for committed athletes in a fun, educational and inspiring environment. All ice sessions are capped at 20 players. On Ice player development sessions are powered by Nate Leslie and Leslie Global Sports.

Strength and Conditioning:
Strength and conditioning sessions are designed to develop the physical skills, abilities and physiological attributes fundamental to successful hockey performance. With a focus on readiness and critical periods of trainability in youth, maturation and level appropriate sessions are delivered to build fundamental movement skills and physical abilities in line with the Canadian Sport for Life Long Term Athlete Development model. Sessions for older players focus on the development of whole body strength and durability, stride power, conditioning, core stability and rotary power. The Richmond Olympic Oval has teamed up with a world-class coaching staff to instruct the Youth Performance Hockey Program. Each coach comes with a wealth of both playing and coaching experience and have guided hundreds of players and goalies from development to full-ride scholarships and professional contracts.
Elite Goaltending:
Rep Goaltenders at the Atom, Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget levels will participate in on-ice sessions delivered by Elite Goalies designed to develop and refine goalie specific on-ice technical skills and position specific strategies. Fundamentals from each session are then put immediately into practice with confined space or full ice games. Coach instruction continues during these integrated player goalie sessions to maximize skill transfer and refine to game specific situations. The focus on the program is to build consistency and continued improvement throughout the season. Reserved for a maximum of 8 goalies with a player- instructor ratio of 1 to 4. Small group goalie specific and private instruction are also available.
