Our Hockey Documentary in Mongolia on Kickstarter: 103% Funded!

We did it!  Our Kickstarter campaign is 103% funded and going to Mongolia!

Thanks to all who have made this Kickstarter initiative possible.  We are still accepting donations via Paypal or e-Transfer to nate@lgsports.ca, and you will still be considered an official backer!

NOTE FROM POST PRODUCTION: CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE DOCUMENTARY!

We are raising funds on Kickstarter to film a documentary of this once in a lifetime history-in-the-making voyage in February 2015 to Mongolia. Please join Nate Leslie & Boe Leslie in creating hockey history!    No Canadian coaches have ever been to Mongolia to donate their time and expertise to the kids and youth coaches of the Mongolian hockey community.  We will be heading into a country where 30% of the people are still nomadic, and only 900 kids play on 7 outdoor rinks.  Kids often wear  adult equipment, if they can find any at all, so we’ll be travelling with bags of donated equipment. Help us document history in hockey’s last frontier: Ice at the End of the Earth.

  1. Re: Mongolia Hi Nate, I have just come upon you campaign. What a great idea. I have some equipment to donate, if that is still needed and saw that you may set up a day in January at the Oval. Please let me know if you have a date and time or if there is another way to donate. Are you looking for anything in particular – do you want jerseys and socks as well?

    • Hi Sandra,

We would love kids equipment. Socks would be great, I think jerseys may weigh us down as they have ability to be creative on their end with jerseys, etc. I am at the Oval Wednesday and Thursday evenings on ice from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Would you be able to stop by next week?

  2. Hello Nate and Boe,

I just recently learned about your plans to visit Mongolia and make a documentary about Mongolian hockey. I hope that your efforts will raise significant awareness for Mongolian Hockey development. Three years ago, my Canadian assistant and I began working to develop youth hockey in Chinggis City, Mongolia. It has been amazing to see our guys go from not being able to skate to bronze U18 winners in three years, but it has not been easy. Like you said, equipment is very limited due primarily to the remoteness of Mongolia. Your collection and distribution of equipment in Mongolia will be a great boost to hockey development. Interestingly, my guy have borrowed and played in the Grigsby Oldtimes jerseys pictured above. Tournaments are a time of great comradry and sharing of equipment. We will be hosting the U16 tournament the last weekend of February. We would love to have you come and experience Mongolian youth hockey.

    • Hi Lesley,

Thank you so much for your comment, we saw those jerseys in UB! Ryan was a great help to us, who you have likely met through your experiences there. It was an amazing and inspiring first step for us!
